The works, executed in phases, included a first phase which covered the demolition of the southern runway end at Morón Air Base, and the construction of new HP45 rigid concrete runway surface, executed by means of a Slipform paver, covering a total surface area of 18,605m² (305x61). This included the placement of steel pins in construction joints, cutting and joint sealing plus grooving of the entire surface.
The scope of the project also included the reinstallation of all affected services: beaconing, taxiways, airfield signaling, as well as the temporary assembly on site of a concrete production plant and laboratory to enable the execution of the works to the degree of quality required in the specifications.
Additionally the repair and cleaning of a 5,000m³ and four 75m³ fuel tanks was undertaken. In a second phase these repairs were carried out at the fueling station, R-11 parking and hydrant areas.
