Project Details
HYSOL
The HYSOL project focused on overcoming the limitations of CSP technology to increase its contribution to the global electricity market, hybridising with a gas turbine to achieve 100% stable and reliable power, regardless of the weather conditions. The HYSOL plant was designed to validate the use of 100% renewal energy sources (when gas fuel derived from biomass is involved) for the production of firm, deliverable electricity, This configuration means the largest contribution of solar energy at a hybrid plant to date.
The result of the HYSOL project was nearly commercial technology for solar hybrid combined cycles (SHCC). To achieve this pre-commercial design, the consortium validated the demo under different modes of operation and the validity of the project in different locations. The experience gained after operating the demo located at Manchasol, Spain, has helped optimise and validate all the simulation tools (which are the basis for future engineering works), the logic of the control system and the modes of operating and the methods of operating future commercial plants.
Cobra, as project lead, provided coordination, integration, engineering and construction of the prototype, as well as its O&M.
