FLOTANT project proposes to develop an innovative unit optimized to sustain a typical 10+MW wind turbine generator (WTG) in deep waters (100-600m), integrated by an anchoring system, a mooring system, a floater with its mast and a power export system, including a design for a deep-water substation, and O&M strategies, sensoring and monitoring. FLOTANT technology aims to achieve a LCOE in the range of 85-95€/MWh by 2030, with further cost reduction expected over time by 2030 that could reach the cost competitiveness of floating wind with other sources of electricity generation, including the produced from fossil fuels and achieve LCOE values comparable with onshore wind, one of the currently cheapest renewable technology. The lowest LCOE will be in a handful of semisubmersible or spar platforms using hybrid structures with lower CAPEX than expensive steel alternatives. For calculations and tests, the project will use the parameters of available for the largest WTG existing at the relevant time, possibly the 12MW GE Haliade-2 2.
